commission for dinkydivas by =CamiIIe on deviantART
This is a commission that the lovely Camille did for me. I love it it's just too cute. But don't stop there, check out her gallery, you won't be disappointed! I would certainly recommend anyone to commission her. Thanks Camille :)

New Illustration 'Dark' for 100 Theme Challenge

New illustration for 100 Theme Challenge group on Deviant Art - 'Dark'.
Dark by *dinkydivas on deviantART
I used a black Letraset Promarker and 0.2 black fineliner on white printer paper.
Apart from the obvious this represents feelings of depression, which I'm glad to have emerged from.

The Crazies
Posted by
Holly
As it's Orange Wednesday we took our regular trip to the cinema today to see 'The Crazies'. I wouldn't describe it as a cinematic masterpiece but it is certainly entertaining and well paced. A gripping piece of entertainment if you're not looking for anything too original with solid performances from the cast, something I've come to expect from Timothy Olyphant.
Perhaps one of the reasons the movie doesn't seem new is the fact that it isn't. Unbeknownst to me it is a remake of an old 1970's George A. Romero film.
I was planning to write a whole post featuring artwork featuring or inspired by 'The Crazies' and related themes but it looks like someone beat me too it and did a better job too :)
Check it out, some very nice illsutration. Actually 'nice' is entirely the wrong word to use given the subject matter. Impressive, powerful, interesting, disturbing... you get the idea.

How To Deal With Negative Criticism Of Your Work?

Pirate Horde by *dinkydivas on deviantART
It was almost entirely accidental then, that I ended up being drafted in, late in the day, to provide artwork for a professional indie game 'Pirate Princess' for Moonpod.
I am a wholly self-taught artist. Although I have always enjoyed drawing as a hobby, my efforts in the field of the visual arts in the past could most accurately be described as 'casual'. (The performance arts was always my 'thing' growing up).

Perspective and Light by *dinkydivas on deviantART
Sunday, and I got the chance to finish my W.I.P. It's a joint entry for both Illustration Friday's theme 'Perspective' and the '100 Theme Challenge' group's topic 'Light'. An illustration mash-up big stylee you may say... if you weren't me.
Initially I intended to do something involving stained glass windows, but then I turned my attention to candles as a symbol of light.
I am fully aware that it's a huge cliche but with good reason, I think. Candles are such an ingrained cultural symbol evoking feelings of security, warmth and even magic, as well as a certain fragility.

The coloured pencil mission!
Posted by
Holly
Saturday found me on a mission...
I'll elaborate; ever since being exposed to the inspiring work of Hellobaby on Deviant Art I've been determined to gain mastery (or should that be 'mistressy'?) over coloured pencils.
